One of the most popular sub-compacts on the road is the Honda Fit, but can you tow with it? What is the Honda Fit tow capacity?

If you live outside the United States, the Honda Fit can tow up to 2,200 lbs for braked towing capacity and 992 lbs for unbraked. However, Honda does not recommend towing with the Fit inside the United States, and doing so will void the manufacturer’s warranty.

The Honda Fit is a subcompact car that Honda produced from 2007 - 2020. Over the last decade and a half, it has proven to be one of the most popular models Honda has ever made. The car has a reputation for excellent performance and fuel economy, despite having one of the weirdest names in all of automotive history. Although the company dropped the Fit in the American market in 2020, the Fit continues to be sold overseas. Even with the sweet goodbye, there are still plenty of Fits on American highways. Honda owners love their cars, and this loyalty resides in an overwhelming belief in quality construction, superb fuel economy, and the fact that a Honda can last forever. But what about towing capacities? Is the Honda Fit built for towing? What is the maximum gross weight it can haul to safely tow? Will it pull a kayak trailer or a motorcycle trailer? This article will address these questions so you don’t end up costing yourself money.

Can The Honda Fit Tow?

The answer to this question depends on where you live. The new Honda Fit (labeled the Jazz) is offered in non-American markets and can tow up to 2,000 lbs if hooked to a braked trailer and 992 lbs unbraked. While this maximum towing weight may not seem like much, it is standard as far as other sub-compact cars go.

Any American-made Honda Fit is not designed for towing. Honda does not advise towing with the Honda Fit. If you plan to tow a small trailer anyway, you risk losing your warranty. In the 2020 Honda Fit owner’s manual, on page 405 are these words: “Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer. Attempting to do so can void your warranties.”

That pretty much settles it. No towing with a Honda Fit.

How Much Weight Will The Fit Tow Without The Warranty Restrictions?

Should you decide to tow without worrying about what Honda thinks, the vehicle’s towing capacity is enough for a small jet ski trailer, dirt bike, ATV, or even a kayak.

Many hitch manufacturers like Curt Mfg and others offer receiver hitches for installation. These hitches bolt onto the frame of the undercarriage and are built for a small ball mount.
